Need help with Gamecube controller ports

I recently bought a used gamecube online and when I got it, the second controller port didn't work. All others worked fine. I decided to just buy a replacement controller port, but I just installed it and once again, the second controller port doesn't work. At this point, I'm pretty sure there's something else going on with the console. Does anybody have any solutions?
