Vigilante: What should my projectile attacks be?

I mean, besides the feather shot, what should I use? Should I just use a gun like Dante or Bayonetta?

Have a knife and gun. After all, I've heard that a knife is more effective than a gun from within 21 feet away. It would be awesome if you were able to implement this into a game.
