Very cheesy, but I think it's good that they are making it clear, to the masses, that the Wii U is a different console entirely and is a step up. Also good to see them emphasizing their greatest games. I think Wii U had a slow start, but with that price point and bundled games, it could be a good holiday for them. They've always had a strong first party line-up and it looks like they will benefit from that greatly this holiday.

Well, this is a step in the right direction (in that they're advertising it at all!), so it's good to see this.

I agree with what you've said - cheesy indeed, but it's the first time that they've had an ad campaign that focuses on the console itself rather than the games. And while it may seem as though they're stating the obvious, particularly in the second one, it addresses the most common problems, mainly the misconception that it's not a new console.

Of course, now that the library looks pretty strong, it'll be interesting to see how the holidays pan out for the Wii U.

"But Mom, it's a total upgrade." Yeah, that's a clear, concise argument.

Nintendo had commercials at the very beginning too. They were all like this, above. They had several different versions of it. Some shorter, and focusing on a few 'squares' over the others. They didn't play them for very long, but I used to see them on a regular basis on tv for the first month or two after launch. By the 3rd month, they slowed down. Haven't seen them since the 4th month. But they did have commecials before. The internet seemed to hate them tho, as they were always bashing them. They were unconventional, but overall half decent. Not the choice I would of made, but it worked. They just weren't well received, and thus, were soon taken off the air.

What I find funny is that I used to see these commercials on tv daily back then, yet, kept reading on the internet that Nintendo had no commercials or advertisements at all for the Wii U. I used to say, yeah they do, they are on tv all of the time. But it was like nobody ever saw them. But they did have them. Even if a lot of people online didn't like to acknowledge it. But they did have it, and it showed off what's new with the system and what you can do.

Never seen that commercial before, but I do like it. I just really wish they tried harder to differentiate the Wii U from the Wii. The console itself just looks too similar and it doesn't help that you see people using Wiimotes to play on it (I mean, I like the fact that we can still use Wiimotes, it just doesn't help differentiate the new console). When the console was first unveiled, I remember they focused a lot on the tablet controller and not much else. I was honestly confused as to whether this was a new console, or simply an add-on controller (it wouldn't be the first time they released an add-on peripheral to the Wii).

I feel like they had this problem with the 3DS as well. I guess, in the long run, the Wii will be phased out and there will only be one Nintendo home console to buy. Sure it's a bit confusing for some now, since both the Wii and Wii U are for sale but in a few years, that won't really be the case. Sorta like what Apple does with the iPad. They stopped calling them iPad 1, 2, and 3, and they just call it the new iPad and stop selling the old ones.

Nintendo had a bunch of those commercials, for a lot of their launch titles.. like these....

All of these commercials used to be on tv daily for a couple of months. I saw them all of the time. Yet, places like IGN and others online kept refusing to acknowledge them, and kept complaining that Nintendo didn't do any promotions for the Wii U. But Nintendo did a lot. They even did this Pre-E3 Nintendo Direct skit to help show it off too..

Nintendo heavily advertised the Wii U. The main issue I found with them, was that media outlets were largely ignoring them, and acting like they never existed, even tho they were constantly on tv. I get it if you didn't happen to see them on tv. That's one thing. But Nintendo even posted them online. So these have been out there for a long time. Places just didn't cover them, talk about them, or, when they did, they complained about them. I remember some 'reviewers' bashing these Nintendo commercials because they didn't like the whole 'colored box' set up.

It's such a shame. But Nintendo did put a lot of effort to get the word out. Lots of places just suppressed it.

Let me just say that my family does not look anything like that. lol

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. I honestly don't watch TV at all, so I miss commercials for all consoles, unless I view it online. I'm not surprised media outlets ignore them. It just seems like their mind is already made up about certain consoles and there isn't much Nintendo (or Sony/MS for that matter) can do to change that.

the only thing i don't like is it's not clear what "2 games come with it." they show you WWHD and the new Mario, but that's not what's in the box…not cool

It's cheesy but I still it gets the point across well. Then again when have Nintendo commercials ever NOT been cheesy?
