Just a question related to Wii U data transfer. I own two wii U's, the one with all my data on it is beat up and has dents all over it, I have another Wii U I'd like to transfer all my data to, but the question I have is, does your save files carry over? Or will it carry over everything but that?

Yes, it does carry over your save files.

From the official site:

Information:
The Wii U to Wii U system transfer feature, implemented with the system update released July 21st, 2014, allows you to transfer content from one Wii U to another Wii U. Content from the source console, including any users, Nintendo Network IDs, save data, and digital content, will replace that on the target console.

As part of the system transfer process:
  • All content from a Wii U must be transferred. You cannot transfer just a single user or Nintendo Network ID through this process.
  • All content on the target Wii U will be lost when the console is formatted and then replaced by the content from the source Wii U, with the exception of Wii Menu content (which will be merged), Internet connection settings, TV settings, Wii U GamePad TV Remote settings, and Wii Remote and Wii U GamePad pairing.
  • The source Wii U will be formatted once the transfer is complete.
  • Nintendo Network IDs that previously existed on the target Wii U can be relinked after the transfer.
    • If these Nintendo Network IDs are relinked, content purchased by them on the target Wii U will become available for download. The save data for IDs that previously existed on the target system will be deleted as part of the system transfer process, and any USB Storage devices that were previously used will need to be formatted to work with the Wii U again.
    • There is a limit of 12 Nintendo Network IDs that can be linked to a single Wii U at one time.
  • Wii Menu digital content is transferred, but it is not deleted from the target Wii U. Wii Menu digital content from both consoles will be combined.

The following is transferred during the system transfer process:
  • All users and any Nintendo Network IDs. Content associated with any transferred Nintendo Network IDs will be available on the target system, including:
    • Software and funds from the Nintendo eShop
    • Friend List data
    • Miiverse data
  • Parental Control settings
  • Save data from the source system, including:
    • Save data from games
    • Data from applications, such as Daily Log, Internet Browser, Animal Crossing Plaza, video on demand applications, Nintendo TVii, etc.
    • Mii characters from Mii Maker
  • All downloaded content, including add-on content, preinstalled data, update data, etc. The downloaded content will automatically download to the target system once the transfer has been completed
  • USB storage data. Any device that has been synced with the source Wii U will be available to use on the target Wii U if connected
  • Wii Menu data, including downloads, save data, and any Wii Points
The following is not transferred during the system transfer process:
  • Internet Settings, TV Settings, and TV Remote Settings
  • Sync information for Wii Remotes, Wii U Pro Controllers, Balance Boards, and other controllers that were used on the source system

Hijacking this to ask a related question: I've heard in the Wii eShop there's tons more games than on the Wii U's and the Wii U clearly states that you're allowed a one-time file transfer from the Wii to the Wii U. Does that mean I can buy a bunch of games on the Wii that aren't on the Wii U and can then play them there?
Also, what happens to the saved data of Wii games (as in disc games), I've heard the Wii U is not backwards compatible with the Wii?

Excellent, thanks for the info!
By chance, do you know if you can transfer some more later on? (I mean, from Wii to Wii U, with no intention to transfer back to the Wii)
And can you do it on the same account? Like, I wouldn't have to set up a profile on the Wii to buy Virtual Console games and then have them tied to a profile other than my regular profile on the Wii U?

So many doubts with this subject! I haven't found the info Nintendo provides very clear or thorough.

Well I don't even know that much about this, so I might be getting it wrong.

But, I don't think you can transfer more data later on, I think once it's done it's done. Maybe I'm wrong. And I don't think there's any accounts or profiles you can create on the Wii, so I think you can just transfer the data to the Wii U as a whole, meaning it goes on all of your accounts/users.

As I said, I'm not very clear on this but I hope I helped.
