"Custom IOS 249 is a stub! Please reinstall it"

We have used the same Wii for the past 10 years using games from an external harddrive. Today, while attempting to connect to the Internet, we were prompted to update the system. After doing so, once selecting the configurable USB loader, the error message "Custom IOS 249 is a stub! Please reinstall it" is displayed on the screen and we are taken back to the main menu. Could anyone advise please.

This means your cIOS has a version below 65280. If you’re using d2x installer, make sure the version number is set to 65535 in the installation settings to prevent updates from overwriting the cIOS in the future.
