How is the original Metroid Prime?

I didn't play the first one, but rather went straight for the second. I got most of the way through it, but couldn't collect all of the dark keys (was that what they were called? It's been a while) at the end of the game. I did buy Corruption though, which was a brilliant game as well.

I've since played Super Metroid, as well as Metroid Prime Hunters for the DS, but I've yet to play the original Prime. How does it compare?

I tried hard to like it. It did not hold a candle to the 2D Metroids.
