The NES had some legendary and hardcore games made for it. Games that were hard as nails and only the most dedicated gamers could complete them. Konami was one developer that contributed greatly to the catalog of insanely difficult NES games. Contra and Castlevania come to mind as soon as someone mentions Konami.
However, Konami were not the only developer that was vying for hardcore gaming street-cred. Tecmo created the legendary Ninja Gaiden series which upped the ante. I've managed to complete all three of the mentioned titles and I've got to admit that Ninja Gaiden felt like the most hardcore gaming experience.
What is your take on this?
